School children took part in big numbers at the 87th Fit India Sundays on Cycle held at the Swarn Jayanti park today morning. Students from Om Landmark School and Green Valley School for children had a memorable outing enjoying a host of fun activities at the event. The 87th edition of the weekly event had the theme 'Unnat Bharat Abhiyan'. The event started with a warm up and PT session which was followed by a fitness challenge where several students competed to out do each other in push ups. Class IV student from Green Valley School for children Sayanti added a patriotic touch to the event as she presented a dance to the the popular song 'teri mitte me mil java'. Om Landmark School's Class X student Ravalveer impressed everyone by singing a Gujarati folk song. Green Valley School for children's Harshiv, enlightenment the participants on the subject of finance by presenting a talk on 'Basic introduction to finance'. The students played a host of games including 'train box', badminton, volleyball, carrom, chess etc. After that the youngsters cycled inside the Sports Authority of India (SAI) National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) campus. Started by Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya on December 2024, Fit India Sundays on Cycle is organised by the Sports Authority of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI ), Indian Rope Skipping Federation, Yogasana Bharat, Raahgiri Foundation, MY Bikes and MY Bharat. The cycling drive is conducted simultaneously across all States and Union Territories, including SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs) and Khelo India Centres (KICs).

Press Information Bureau“Bharat's performance is steadily improving, and we are moving forward as strong contenders to host the 2036 Olympics,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “A Nasha Mukt Bharat must be a collective responsibility for all of us,” PM Modi Bharat to launch talent-hunt campaign for children aged 5-15 to identify future Olympic stars, says PM Modi. “The greatest beneficiary of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ will be the youth of my country,” said PM Modi. “We have decided to provide free online coaching for young people preparing for various examinations,” PM Modi Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, addressed the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 80th Independence Day and underscored the central role of sports and youth in India's journey towards a "Viksit Bharat" by 2047. The Prime Minister pointed to advances across the sporting ecosystem, stating: "The TOPS scheme has achieved tremendous success. Khelo India Games, University Games, Winter Games, Beach Games, sports infrastructure, coaching for sports, sports medicine and sports nutrition, Bharat is moving forward towards achieving excellence in all these areas. For young people, even if they are unable to become athletes themselves, a vast new field of opportunities is opening up within the support system around sports." Turning to jobs, the Prime Minister announced the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana, a scheme he said would benefit young people for years to come: "Today, on August 15th, we are launching and implementing a scheme worth Rs 1 lakh crore for the youth of my country. The Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana is being implemented today on August 15th... Under this scheme, the government will give Rs. 15,000 to the youth, to every son or daughter who gets a job in the private sector. Companies which generate more opportunities for providing new employment will also be given incentives. Pradhan Mantri Vikas Bharat Rojgar Yojana will create new employment opportunities for approximately 3.5 crore youth." The Prime Minister also outlined India's growing sporting ambitions on the world stage: "Bharat's performance in the world of sports is steadily improving, and we are moving forward as strong contenders to host the 2036 Olympics. Bharat is also going to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030." He noted that the Olympic Games encompass roughly 40 sports and 325–350 events, and stressed the need for India to broaden its participation: "In nearly two-thirds of these 325 events, Bharat does not even participate. We are not present; we do not qualify. We have decided that we want the 2036 Olympics to be held in Bharat. Bharat must focus on these areas. We also want to launch a talent-hunt campaign." Prime Minister Modi linked this ambition to a long-term talent identification drive: "If we need athletes for 2036, we must focus today on these young boys and girls who are 5, 10 or 15 years old. We must pay attention to our daughters as well. A talent-hunt campaign will be conducted in villages, cities and schools across the country to identify sporting talent among children aged between 5 and 15." Children identified through this campaign, he said, would have their abilities assessed and be given specialised training to help them develop into athletes capable of representing the country. The Prime Minister also addressed the growing challenge of substance abuse among young people, calling for a united national response: "Drug abuse is becoming a major crisis for the country and its young people. A 'Nasha Mukt Bharat' must be a collective responsibility for all of us. For the sake of our bright future, our younger generation must be strong, and the strength of our youth must be harnessed for the progress of our country." Emphasising the importance of young people to India's development, the Prime Minister said: "If there is one, it is the youth of my country, the youth power of the country. The youth have a very important role to play in the journey towards a 'Viksit Bharat'." He added: "Therefore, we must take forward the goal of a 'Viksit Bharat' by connecting it with the aspirations and participation of our youth. We must move forward with our youth as our highest priority." Highlighting the expansion of India's entrepreneurial landscape, the Prime Minister said: "Under the Startup India initiative, there are now more than 2.5 lakh registered startups across the country." Pointing to the Government's ₹1 lakh crore Innovation Fund, he encouraged young entrepreneurs, saying: "Come forward with your dreams; we will ensure that there is no shortage of resources." Acknowledging the financial strain that coaching classes place on families, the Prime Minister announced a new initiative to provide free online coaching for students preparing for various examinations: "The pressure of coaching classes has become a major burden for our middle-class families." He added: "Therefore, we have decided to provide free online coaching for young people preparing for various examinations." Explaining how this would be implemented, he said: "We have the digital public infrastructure, we have excellent talent, and we have teachers. By bringing these resources together, we are going to build an extensive network to provide free coaching to the young people of the country."
Press Information BureauThe Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved an expanded Khelo India Scheme and enhanced Assistance to National Sports Federations (ANSFs) with a combined outlay of Rs.36,441 crore for the period 2026–27 to 2030–31, reaffirming the Government's commitment to harnessing the power of sports for youth development and nation-building. This is the country's most ambitious sports development programme since Independence. The aspirations of the youth of the country towards sports has been given a major boost and will have a transformational impact over the coming decade. The approved outlay is nearly eight times that of the previous Khelo India Scheme, reflecting the Government's commitment to making sports a cornerstone of youth development, nation-building and India's emergence as a global sporting powerhouse. The revamped scheme is designed to create a seamless pathway for every talented young Indian—from school playgrounds and village sports fields to the Olympic podium. It seeks to ensure that no sporting talent is left undiscovered because of geography, economic background or lack of opportunity. Aligned with the vision of Khelo Bharat Niti 2025 and the National Education Policy 2020, the scheme integrates sports with education, fitness, technology and high-performance training while laying a strong foundation for India's long-term sporting ambitions, including the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the country's bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Every talented youth gets a pathway to excellence: For the first time, a comprehensive athlete development pathway has been created to support young sportspersons at every stage—from talent identification and scientific training to international competition and Olympic preparation. The scheme establishes an integrated nationwide sports ecosystem comprising National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), Khelo India Centres of Excellence (KICoEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India Accredited Academies (KIAAs), Khelo India Centres (KICs) and Youth Sports Companies (YSCs) of the Armed Forces. Together, these institutions will provide world-class coaching, sports science support and modern infrastructure across the country. To strengthen the school sports ecosystem, the Government has introduced two new initiatives—Khelo India Feeder Schools (KIFS) and Khelo India Utkrishta Vidyalayas (KIUV)—which will integrate sports with mainstream education and enable early identification and systematic nurturing of talented children. India's athlete pool to expand nearly ten-fold: A major reform under the scheme is the creation of the Emerging Khelo India Athletes (E-KIAs) category alongside the existing Khelo India Athletes programme. This will expand the structured athlete development ecosystem by nearly ten times, bringing thousands of additional young athletes under professional coaching, scientific support and long-term mentoring. A strengthened nationwide talent identification framework involving Talent Identification Development Committees, Zonal Committees, Talent Scouts, High Performance Directors and High Performance Managers will ensure continuous identification, tracking and development of promising athletes across the country. The scheme also establishes a clear progression pathway from grassroots competitions to Khelo India, and subsequently to the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), enabling deserving athletes to receive world-class training, international exposure and comprehensive support to compete for medals at the highest level. More competitions, greater opportunities: Recognising that sporting excellence depends on regular competition, the revamped scheme significantly strengthens India's domestic competition ecosystem. It supports school, university, regional and sport-specific leagues alongside national championships to provide sustained competitive exposure to young athletes. Special emphasis has been placed on expanding opportunities for women athletes, para-athletes, indigenous sports, and sports as a tool for peace, inclusion and community development. The scheme also provides support for organising the National Games and hosting major international sporting events in India. Building a fitter and healthier India: The Fit India Movement will be significantly expanded to promote fitness as a nationwide movement, particularly among young people. Campaigns will encourage active lifestyles, women's participation in sports, outreach in border and remote areas and sports-based initiatives against substance abuse, reinforcing sports as a vehicle for social transformation. Investing in coaches, technology and innovation: Recognising that athletes can excel only with world-class support systems, the Government will establish the National Coach Accreditation Board (NCAB) to standardise coaching qualifications, improve professional standards and strengthen the capacity of coaches and support staff across the country. The scheme also envisages a unified digital sports platform integrating athlete databases, infrastructure, competitions, coaching resources, talent assessments, funding and Fit India participation. The platform will enable data-driven planning, transparent governance and personalised athlete development. Stronger partnerships for sporting excellence: The Government will deepen collaboration with private academies, corporate partners and other institutions to leverage investment, innovation and expertise in sports infrastructure, talent development and athlete support, creating a truly national sports ecosystem driven by both public and private participation. Supporting India's global sporting ambitions: To complement the revamped Khelo India Scheme, the Government has also approved a strengthened Assistance to National Sports Federations (ANSF) Scheme for the period 2026-31. The scheme will support Indian athletes and teams through funding for coaching, sports science, modern equipment, international exposure, coaching camps, engagement of foreign experts and participation in major international competitions. It will also support sports cooperation with countries of the Global South and promote India's indigenous sports internationally. A national mission for Viksit Bharat: The revamped Khelo India Scheme represents one of the largest investments ever made in India's sporting future. More than a sports programme, it is a national mission to empower young Indians with opportunity, confidence and excellence. By creating a seamless pathway from grassroots talent to global sporting success, the scheme aims to nurture champions, inspire a culture of fitness, strengthen India's sporting ecosystem and position the country among the world's leading sporting nations as it moves towards the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
